SmartCommenter provides a browser extension that helps users generate, rewrite, and reply to LinkedIn comments. This policy explains the information processed by the extension and its supporting services, including local image-text recognition, licensing, usage analytics, subscriptions, and feedback.
When you use a generation, rewrite, or reply feature, SmartCommenter may read relevant content from the LinkedIn post or comment area you are using. This can include the post caption, text extracted from attached images, the parent comment, nearby comments when relevant, your draft, and a previous generated response used to produce a fresh alternative.
This content is processed to provide the requested response. It is not limited to text you manually highlight or paste. Names or other personal information present in the relevant content may also be processed.
The generation handler sends the relevant text through our backend to OpenAI and returns the generated response to your browser. It does not intentionally save those requests and responses as a server-side comment history. This does not mean that no data is collected, that all processing is anonymous, or that third-party providers retain no data.
SmartCommenter does not request your LinkedIn password or read unrelated browsing history for comment generation. Avoid including confidential, sensitive, or unnecessary personal information in the content you submit.
We process and may retain the following information to operate and support SmartCommenter:
Operational events can be associated with your license key. A license identifier is not necessarily anonymous, particularly when linked with an IP address, email address, or subscription.
We use these records for licensing, enforcing quotas, maintaining subscriptions, troubleshooting, measuring feature usage, responding to feedback, and improving the service.
SmartCommenter uses optical character recognition, or OCR, to extract written text from supported LinkedIn post images. In extension v1.0.85, sufficiently informative captions may be used without OCR. Image-only posts, vague captions, or captions referring to image details may trigger local OCR.
Extracted text can contain personal information if that information appears in the image. Local OCR does not prevent that text from being transmitted when it is included in a generation request. OCR may also make recognition errors.
OpenAI receives the relevant text and generation instructions to produce a response. OpenAI does not receive the original image files through our Chrome extension OCR feature. Its processing and retention depend on the API service and applicable account settings.
OpenAI states that API inputs and outputs are not used to train or improve its models by default, unless the API account operator opts into data sharing. Standard abuse-monitoring logs may contain prompts and responses and are generally retained for up to 30 days, with exceptions described in OpenAI’s documentation. We do not represent this service as OpenAI Zero Data Retention.
API data sharing is currently enabled: SmartCommenter has enabled OpenAI’s optional API input/output-sharing program. Eligible submitted text and generated responses sent through that shared project may be used by OpenAI to improve or train models. Such sharing is separate from the processing needed to generate a response. Shared content should not be assumed to be anonymized or free of personal information.

Stripe processes subscription payments and billing information. We receive subscription and transaction-related records needed to activate and manage your plan. Our subscription backend does not receive or store full payment-card numbers or card security codes.

When IP-based location lookup is enabled, our backend may send your IP address to IPinfo or ipapi.co to obtain approximate location information. Hosting and network providers also process requests and technical information necessary to deliver and secure the service.

These providers may process information in countries other than your own. We do not sell personal data or use LinkedIn content for personalized advertising. Information may also be disclosed where necessary to comply with law or protect the security of the service.
The extension uses Chrome extension storage for its license, settings, installation and usage information, and relevant prompt or dismissal preferences. Some settings use Chrome sync storage and may be synchronized through your Chrome account according to your browser settings.
The extension does not use cookies to store these settings. The SmartCommenter website, LinkedIn, and payment-provider pages are separate from extension storage and may use cookies or similar technologies for their own operation.
Uninstalling the extension may open a SmartCommenter uninstall page containing your license key and extension version in the URL. That page can record the uninstall event and associate it with existing license and usage records. The web request also provides an IP address, from which approximate location may be obtained.
If you select an uninstall-reason chip, that selected reason can be submitted immediately. If you submit a written note or feature request, we retain that message and any optional contact information to understand issues and respond where appropriate.
Uninstalling stops the installed extension from operating, but does not automatically erase previously stored operational records or cancel an active subscription. Subscription management and data-deletion requests are separate actions.
Relevant text is handled while providing generation features, and recent context or generated text can remain temporarily in browser memory for actions such as regeneration. Our generation handler does not intentionally create a persistent server-side history of comment content. Feedback you explicitly submit is retained separately.
License, usage, analytics, subscription, uninstall, and feedback records may remain after you stop using or uninstall SmartCommenter. We retain operational records for service administration and support; deletion requests are handled subject to applicable billing, legal, security, and backup requirements. Third-party providers have their own retention practices.
Network requests to our backend and relevant service providers use HTTPS. No storage or transmission method is completely secure. We do not make a blanket zero-retention promise for our providers or hosting infrastructure.
You can choose whether to use generation features, review generated text before posting, change available extension settings, uninstall the extension, and manage an active subscription through the available subscription-management page.
You may contact us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of records associated with your license, subject to applicable requirements. Include the relevant license key so we can locate the records, but do not send passwords or full payment-card details.
Email support@smartcommenter.site. We aim to respond within 14 days; applicable legal response deadlines may differ. Deleting licensing records can affect your ability to use the service.
SmartCommenter is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the service, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
We may update this policy when features or processing practices change. Updates will be posted on this page and the last-updated date will be revised. Material changes to data practices require appropriate disclosure and, where required, consent; a policy update alone does not replace those steps.
